We're getting rusty, buddy, we should have had this covered months ago. Feeling rather embarrassed now. Still, like any good top secret project, it snuck in under the radar instead of jumping up and down with a light and bell on it's head before the idea had even been pitched to anyone.

Where did this come from, i have been researching all things Andersons for the past few months and I hadnt heard a whisper of a remake of Space:1999 or now "Space:2099". But it looks like they have been planning this for a bit from scanning their website and the promo stuff.

I hope they can get it off the ground and I look forward to see what they do with it, I dont want to kick up a hornets nest... but (taking into account if they choose to keep the existing characters thay i hope they do to some degree at least) who do people think would be good in it?

The only ones that jumps out at me at the moment is....

Professor Victor Bergman - Sir Ian Mckellen or if they wanted somebody a little younger possibly Chris Eccleston both great actors who I think could pull it off well.

Its interesting that most people think they won't use the travelling moon idea (the reason I could never think of a way to do it myself) , and its an interesting to note their focus on plausibility.
Its also interesting to read on "ain't it cool" that there isn't much love for the original.

What does that leave? Space 2099 with the moon still in orbit. Move the action to a ship (maybe the one seen in the 1st poster).

My main worry is that they'l do what most TV series do nowadays and make the show 80% character driven with lots of Angst, sex, depression, conflicts etc (BSG, lost and Stargate Universe being good examples) they are not bad shows but it does leave me wondering why on moon am i watching this if i'm after escapism?

I have a feeling this show may end up being quite different, which i don't mind, even if the eagles are different if its good i'll watch it. Ideally id like to see S1999's more mystical side come through. Episodes like Collision course or Dragons domain...

I like the idea that the moon enters some kind of rift or hole in space. That would still cause issues on Earth and send the moon into deep outer space. That might boost up the chances that they could somehow get home since they wouldn't have to physically travel to Earth but instead find a way to reverse what happened.

That idea is similar to Farscape but may eliminate the problem that so many critics of the original point to as a flaw and that is the actually blasting out of Earth's orbit and traveling out into distant space so quickly.

Space:1999 isn't my favourite Anderson show, but of all the shows Gerry produced season one of Space is the only one I really wouldn't like to see remade. Trying to recreate the mood and style of those first 24 episodes would be pretty much impossible, and for me that's what makes it work. Now if they wanted to remake season two, that's another matter... a groovy retro-funky extravaganza with huge explosions, fleets of giant spaceships and hordes of rubber suited monsters would be just the ticket. Aaargh... Who opened that airlock... ! (or window...) :D
