Really enjoyed reading the article on The Secret Service - a highly original although sadly unpopular series. I recall seeing it in the early 1970s and not being particularly overwhelmed or underwhelmed by it.

The brief review of the two books reminded me of how much I enjoyed reading 'The Destroyer', back in the late 80s. I haven't got the book now and had completely forgotten about it, but I had to smile, nostalgically, as I recalled the sequence where the tower of father Unwin's church cracks in half or falls off and he rushes outside and says something like 'Oh deary me, that is not a good sign' - something like that! It had quite a quaint, unique, olde worlde atmosphere about it. I shall have to scour ebay and see if I can find another copy!

Deep Joy.

You were lucky then.
It was only aired in the Granada , ATV and Southern regions.

I can't understand why nobody has picked it up for a repeat.
The BBC and more surprisingly Bravo both ignored it in the 90's despite showing the other Supermarionation shows and it remains unscreened on British tv for everyone outside those regions.

Even today it could be marketed as a lost Anderson show and get a premier broadcast somewhere.
It would be nice for someone to give it the first ever national screening.

It was indeed!!

Come to think of it, re. my previous post; upon reflection I suspect that poor old Father Unwin, upon emerging from his vicarage and seeing the church tower so rudely assaulted, probably shouted "Oh, what a calamitode!"
