No size is given. We see Troy exit and enter the craft via the hatch in the nose. We see Troy and Phones enter the ship via the injector tubes. But most significantly in In Search Of The Tajmanon we see several people – including Phones – standing on the bow next to the main cabin. We can clearly identify the size relationship here. Superimposing one of these shots over a shot of the full ship the size can be calculated.
In the TV21 mini-album, Troy states that Stingray is ’80 feet long and 10 feet wide’. This would be about the size of the main cabin. Maybe they are meant to be inside the main cabin, and this is what Troy is referring to… maybe.
The ‘Sting Missiles’ are very effective against other vessels and undersea structures.
In Stingray, Commander Shore tells Troy to proceed at full speed, and Phones confirms this.
Stingray is unique. Although it has a ‘3’ on the tail fins, there is never any discussion about another Stingray craft. There is never any indication of anything else close to its capabilities. It is clearly one of a kind.
It plays a vital role with Captain Troy Tempest conducting numerous dangerous missions crucial to securing alliances with new undersea races and defending the ‘terranean’ world.
In The Lighthouse Dwellers there is a dedication plaque that indicates the date that the lighthouse is decommissioned, and we see this happen as part of the story, so this episode definitely takes place in that year.
In the famous shot of Stingray leaping out of the ocean pursued by a Mechanical Fish we can see the size relationship between the two. Using the established size of Stingray the fish’s size has been calculated. The set of the big fish cabin, specifically the ‘eye’ windows, supports this size pretty well.
The missiles fired from the gaping mouth easily dispatch most undersea vessels.
The Mechanical Fish manages to give Stingray a run for its money in undersea dogfights.
There are many Mechanical Fish in Titan’s undersea army. They are never seen to perform any special operation or pivotal action in a story.
Although we can imagine that forces of Titanica have been around for a while prior to the show, this is never specified. We could argue that the Mechanical Fish is new and is first used to attack the World Security Patrol’s sea probe (Stingray).
