1965 – The Daily Mirror reports that the crew of H.M.S.Bronington (a mine hunter) have written to A.T.V. to see if they can adopt Marina from Stingray as the ships mascot. A.T.V. agreed and a special model was made and sent out to them

1979 – The Daily Star reports of “A Dad’s Fright From Outer Space” when two canisters are found by his daughter in the garden stamped on the side with a radio-activity symbol and with the words Danger – Waste Material. The canisters were taken to the local police station which started a full scale alert with the officers who touched them isolated and firemen in anti-contamination suits sent to the address to scan the garden with geiger counters. After tests at a Government radiochemical centre it was discovered that the cylinders came from a Dinky toy model from Space:1999, the parent company Meccano would change the design for the future and remove the warning words. Meccano’s marketing manager reported that half a million had been sold around the world without any complaints
