HOLE IN ONE
The Secret Service 55th Anniversary Celebration and Location Tour
3rd/4th August 2024
Join your fellow Anderson fans for a location-based event, celebrating The Secret Service’s 55th anniversary.
- Saturday 3rd August will be a full-day coach tour of filming locations, not just those used in The Secret Service.
In the evening there will be a guest talk, big screen presentations, a fun quiz and time for socialising at Moor Hall, Cookham (previously home to Gaumont British Animation Studios).
We won’t have a Fanderson Sales table at the event, but there will be table of collectable memorabilia from all of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s productions, which will be cash only.
- On Sunday 4th August we relocate to Maidenhead Golf Club, as featured in the episode Hole In One, for more guest talks, screenings, an appearance by Stanley Unwin and a display including all the main puppets and equipment from The Secret Service.
This may be your last chance to visit this location, as it is due for demolition to make way for 2,500 houses!
All delegates will get an event programme and anniversary art print, plus a deluxe buffet at the golf club.
Any event profits will go to Children’s Cancer Research UK.
Registration (registrations closed at the end of June)
Due to the nature of this event, places are strictly limited by coach capacity, so it’s advisable to book immediately.
Registration is just £85 for Fanderson members. If registering more than one person, please put additional names in the notes field with your order.
If you’d rather not book online, please print the order form on the Join Or Renew page of the club website. Use a separate line on the form for each place you’re booking, and give each person’s full name.
Accommodation
We have arranged bed and breakfast accommodation at Moor Hall at just £70 (single) or £80 (double). Places here are limited to just 70. Delegates must book their own accommodation once your event registration is confirmed – click here to book.
Alternative accommodation nearby includes the Travelodge Maidenhead Central, Premier Inn Maidenhead Town Centre, Fredrick’s Hotel and Spa or the Thames Riviera Hotel.
Outline weekend programme
Saturday 3rd August
Moor Hall, Cookham, SL6 9QH.
Nearest railway stations – Cookham (approximately 15 minute walk) having changed at Maidenhead (which has direct trains from London Paddington).
Alternatively, a taxi from Maidenhead (approximately 12 minute drive).
Location Tour 09:00-16:30 (approximately)
Breakfast will be available for those staying at Moor Hall from 7:30.
Our location tour coaches leave promptly at 09:00. To fit in as many fantastic locations as we can, the coach must leave at 09:00 promptly, and we cannot wait for anyone who is late. If you haven’t done so already, you may want to stay overnight Friday and pick up your package from us at Moor Hall during the evening.
There will be various comfort stops along the way but you may want to prepare a packed lunch for the day.
The location tour is looking amazing and though we’ll update this page again before the event, we want you to have some nice surprises! At this stage we can say we’re planning to visit the vicarage, the church and the golf course, but intend to visit some Joe 90 and UFO locations too! We’ll be visiting some of the locations for the very first time, as they’ve only recently been discovered or were previously misidentified. Be sure to bring along your copy of The Secret Service Close Up, as it’ll help you put the locations into context.
Social evening 19:30-22:00 (approximately)
We plan to be back at Moor Hall with enough time for everyone to refresh themselves before an evening dedicated to The Secret Service. Moor Hall does not have dinner facilities, but there are plenty of eateries just a few minutes’ walk along Cookham High Street (up to 8 minutes). Although there’s no group booking, The Kings Arms is holding space for us to have a refreshing drink, so you might want to book a table for dinner there too:
- The Kings Arms (www.thekingsarmscookham.co.uk) – yes, that Kings Arms, where Gerry Anderson found his inspiration for Parker!
- Anong Thai (www.anongthai.co.uk)
- Bel And The Dragon (www.belandthedragon-cookham.co.uk)
- The Crown of Cookham (www.thecrownofcookham.co.uk)
- Malik’s (www.maliks.co.uk)
- Peking Inn (www.pekinginncookham.co.uk)
Or head along towards Cookham station (about 15 minutes) where you’ll find:
- Malik’s Express (www.maliks.co.uk)
- Neps Bistro (nepsbistro.co.uk)
- Smiles (fish and chips) (smilescookham.swiftorder.co.uk)
- Spice Forte (spicefortecookham.co.uk/)
- Yunan Meze and Grill (yunanmezegrillonline.co.uk)
- Budgens Countrystore
- Costa
Sunday 4th August
Maidenhead Golf Club, Maidenhead, SL6 2PZ.
Nearest railway station – Maidenhead (approximately 11 minute walk).
10:00-16:00 (approximately)
We’ll relocate to Maidenhead Golf Club, approximately 5 miles from Moor Hall. We have not arranged transport from Moor Hall as we anticipate most delegates will have driven to the event, and we hope everyone will offer up spaces in their cars for anyone who doesn’t have their own transport.
Guests
We’ll be joined by Alan Shubrook for the whole event, plus an extra special video call on both days from Keith Alexander in Australia, and exclusive interviews with Gary Files, Mary Turner and of course Father Unwin himself.
