It is with much sadness that we must report the death on 19th December, 1991 of Paul Maxwell, who provided the voice for the Fireball XL5 hero, Steve Zodiac. Paul was a very respected character actor and a charming man who delighted audiences at Fanderson 90 with his recollections of working on Fireball XL5, and his further work for Gerry Anderson as the voice of Zero X pilot Paul Travers in Thunderbirds Are Go, as Captain Grey and the World President in Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons, and as Lt Lewis in the popular Sub-Smash episode of UFO. He had very much wanted to attend the Plan B and Fanderson 91 conventions last year, but his illness sadly prevented him from making any further appearances.
Paul Maxwell’s varied and successful career included featured roles in numerous ITC series such as The Champions (The Silent Enemy), The Saint (The Helpful Pirate), Danger Man (The Girl Who Liked GIs, The Gallows Tree and The Relaxed Informer), Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased) (The Trouble With Women), The Adventurer (Love Always, Magda) and The Baron (The Man Outside and Epitaph For A Hero), and more recently he had been seen in Coronation Street, Howard’s Way and the feature films The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Aliens and Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.
He will be much missed by those who knew him and by the many fans of his work.
