Membership auto-renewal – fix applied

A software fix was applied at the weekend which should have stopped the problem some members were experiencing, whereby they were forced to set up their club account as an automatic annually-renewing membership.

We are now working our way through all membership records to un-apply any auto-renewing, which we are doing on an individual member basis. This will take some days, and members affected will be emailed directly by PayPal to inform them when the club has suspended automatic payments. This does not affect your membership or your ability to pay for any of the club’s services or merchandise. It will simply stop our system auto-renewing your membership next year.

Please ignore any mention of “next subscription payment” on your membership order, as we continue to manage memberships manually, and will inform you when your next renewal is due.

We continue to seek a solution to another issue, whereby some members are not being given the option to simply pay by card (instead only being offered to use/open a PayPal account). As this problem is sporadic, we ask any members experiencing difficulties such as these to email us with:

  • your name
  • your location (country)
  • what you were trying to buy
  • total order amount
  • screenshots of the payment screen and any error messages that you are getting.

Thanks.

Sporadic issues with PayPal (updated)

It has been brought to our attention that a very small number of club members are experiencing problems paying for their Fanderson membership, merchandise or services.

Although PayPal has been our card payment processor without problem for many years, it appears that some members are no longer being given the option to simply pay by card (instead only being offered to use/open a PayPal account). Please be assured that this is not something that Fanderson has asked to be put in place.

We’ve also been advised of a separate problem whereby PayPal is suggesting that a membership has to be set up as an automatically annually-renewing transaction. Again, this is not something that Fanderson has asked to be put in place.

We are investigating both of these problems with PayPal, but it is proving difficult as they’re sporadic and don’t seem to be following any pattern (ie, location, amount being purchased etc).

Some members have found that clearing their browser history has cleared the problem.

Other members have found using a different browser works, or completing the transaction on their phone, instead of a computer.

We ask any members experiencing difficulties such as these to email us with:

  • your name
  • your location (country)
  • what you were trying to buy
  • total order amount
  • your browser (eg, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome)
  • the type of computer you’re using (eg, Windows desktop, Windows laptop, Apple laptop, iPad, Android phone)
  • screenshots of the payment screen and any error messages that you are getting.

Thanks.

How to get FAB magazine? Join Fanderson!

FAB magazine is available exclusively to Fanderson club members – we deliver three times a year, and we do our very best to make each issue a joy to read for every fan – regardless of your favourite series!

The wrapper for the FAB 93 mailing is 100% compostable, as it’s made from potato and maize starch.

Don’t throw it in your bin, but instead:

  1. put it in your home composter
  2. put it in with your garden waste, or
  3. use it to line your food waste caddy

Once your FAB’s arrived, let us know what think of the wrapper at fanderson.org.uk@outlook.com

UK premiere of Inferno at Supercelebration

Inferno, episode 22 of Thunderbirds Are Go‘s second season, will receive its UK premiere screening at Fanderson’s Supercelebration convention – a weekend celebrating 50 years of UFO, Doppelgänger, The Secret Service and other Gerry and Sylvia Anderson creations – this September.

The Crystal Spire, the tallest building in the world, catches fire and the local firefighters are rendered helpless. Virgil and Alan are called to extinguish the flames and rescue everyone trapped inside.

Though omitted from ITV’s 2017 broadcast of the series, the episode has been hailed for featuring a rescue reminiscent of the classic 1966 Thunderbirds episode City Of Fire and continues to be available on streaming services elsewhere.

Registrations for Supercelebration will close on 1st September 2019, and we cannot guarantee that there will be any on-the-door places available. Don’t miss out!

Happy birthday, Fanderson!

Yes, it was 38 years ago today that Gerry Anderson was joined by Keith Shackleton, Pam Barnes, Mark Jones, Barbara Kitson, Chris Leach, David Nightingale, Phil Rae, Brendan Sheehan and John Williams at Pinewood Studios.

Together, they formed the world’s only official appreciation society for the work of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson – Fanderson.

Welcome to our new website

Our new website has all the features of the old one (plus a few new ones!) but you should find it much easier to use, whether you’re on a computer, tablet or your mobile.

We’ve got a brand-new shop where, once you’ve set up your account, you won’t have to enter your details every time you want to order anything.

The first time you go to buy anything from us you’ll be prompted to set up your account by including something from the “membership” category. If you’re joining the club for the first time, or renewing your membership, just pick the option for wherever in the world you live.

If you’re an existing paid up member, or if you’re buying a Supercelebration Non-Member place, pick the “Current Membership” option.

You may notice that there’s no longer a link to the Fanderson Forum. The site had some technical issues back in April which, unfortunately, look to be unsurmountable for the foreseeable future. We’ll let you know if we’re able to reinstate the Forum but, in the meantime, why not join in the conversation on our Facebook page.

Matt Zimmerman to attend Supercelebration

We are delighted to announce that the ever popular and irrepressible Matt Zimmerman will be attending Special Assignment in September!

Matt voiced the youngest Tracy brother in the original Thunderbirds series and has attended countless Fanderson conventions over the years. His last convention appearance was in 2017, when he appeared on stage alongside fellow voice artists Wayne Forrester and Liz Morgan. This September he will be joined by his ‘elder brother’ Shane Rimmer to discuss their memories of working on the Supermarionation shows.

We can’t wait to meet Matt again at Supercelebration!

Join us for a Supercelebration

The convention takes place from 20th to 22nd September at the 2019 Holiday Inn, Maidenhead.

Early bird tickets to Supercelebration start at just £55 per person for one day, or £90 for the whole weekend. In this challenging financial climate, we’ve managed to keep the ticket price the same as our Special Assignment convention in 2017. That’s because we’re a fan club and no one is taking a salary.
