[AUS] Up to 50% off in ViaVision’s Big UK TV Sale!

Australian cult and classic film and television label ViaVision has a Big UK TV Sale now on, where you could save up to 50%!

Of particular interest to Fanderson members will be The Protectors in Classic ITV Bundle 2, Stingray, Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons and Space:1999 in Sci-Fi DVD Bundle. With over 50 titles included, there’s sure to be something for everyone, but hurry as the sales ends on 24th August!

UK: Anderson series now available free on ITV X

Many of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s classic productions are now available, free of charge, on ITV’s new streaming service ITV X. Anderson programmes owned by ITV are usually free of commercials on the platform.

All episodes are available of Supercar, Thunderbirds (including the crowdsourced ‘anniversary episodes’, Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons, The Secret Service, UFO, The ProtectorsSpace:1999, Terrahawks and New Captain Scarlet.

For some reason, only selected episodes are available of Stingray and Joe 90, whilst Fireball XL5 isn’t there at all! Curiously, only selected episodes of ITV’s own 2015 reboot Thunderbirds Are Go are available.

ITV X is free to view, with most of the above content available ad-free too. There’s a free seven-day trial of the subscription Premium service (normally £5.99 a month) which offers even more content, all ad-free, with access to additional content over on BritBox.

The Protectors watchalong this Saturday

Hot on the heels of their Space:1999 watchalong in September (see FAB Express 102) Lives In The Pictures have announced another event for this coming Saturday.

At 19:00 (GMT) on 3rd December join Lives In The Pictures’ Philip Hawkins with his special guest, writer John Goldsmith, for a live watch along of two episodes from The ProtectorsBalance Of Terror and Brother Hood. The event will be hosted on Zoom and for the best experience you will need to have your own copy of the episodes to watch along.

John will answer your questions throughout the event, and once registered you can submit your questions in advance. You’ll also be able to ask questions during the event via the chat function.

To register, simply email livesinthepictures@gmail.com with your full name.

UK: The Protectors on ITV4

Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s 1970s series The Protectors is being broadcast in the UK on ITV4 and streaming service ITVX.

  • weekdays around 11:20

UK: Anderson series now free-to-view on ITV Hub

Having long been available to view in the UK on Britbox, many of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s classic productions are now available on the ITV Hub.

Fans can now watch Supercar, Fireball XL5 (selected episodes), Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons, Joe 90 (selected episodes), The Secret Service, UFO, The Protectors and Space:1999. ITV’s own Thunderbirds Are Go reimagining is available too, along with the crowdsourced Thunderbirds anniversary episodes.

All are available free to view and ad-free, once the programme itself starts. Watching fully ad-free costs £3.99/month or £39.99/year, but there’s a free 7-day trial available (surely long enough for any die-hard fan to binge-watch the whole lot!).

Christmas TV – not EastEnders again!

At a loss for some quality seasonal television from the broadcasters this Christmas? Why not dig out the TVTimes special that we mailed with FAB last year (and again recently for new members)?

Surround yourself with some treats and a little something to wash it all down, then feast out all day on the very best seasonal Gerry and Sylvia Anderson entertainment (and remember, Stingray A Christmas To Remember is just one of the many programmes now available in high definition).

PS – Obviously, but just in case anyone thought otherwise, in the supplement the 40th Anniversary Quiz closed on 31st January 2021, and Six-Five Special offers were valid until 14th February 2021!

Australia: The Protectors on DVD

ViaVision’s recent announcement about their (rather excellent) Space:1999 Blu-ray boxset has rather overshadowed the fact that they also have an (albeit, cut-down) DVD boxset of the series too.

They’ve also released The Protectors in a 7-disc DVD set which, as well as Network’s special features of over 1,500 stills (including PR and behind-the-scenes) and promotional material (PDF DVD-ROM content), ViaVision’s release adds an audio commentary with guest star Derren Nesbitt and French and Spanish title sequences.

A Celebration of ITC – DVD available now!

In November 2018, a special celebration of the unforgettable shows of ITC took place at Elstree Studios. Stars Annette Andre, Space:1999‘s Prentis Hancock, Jenny Hanley, UFO‘s Georgina Moon, Ian Ogilvy, Thunderbirds‘ Shane Rimmer (in what would prove to be his last public appearance) and Madeline Smith were joined by Space:1999 stuntman Paul Weston, The Protectors‘ director John Hough, and crew members Tony Sloman and Derek Wells for a great evening of chat!

With so many Anderson alumni involved, Fanderson members who were unable to attend the event are sure to be interested in the 120-minute DVD, which includes highlights from all the on-stage Q&A sessions. There’s a review of the event here.

Order your copy now for just £9.99 (+ P&P if outside UK), with a proportion of proceeds being donated to Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice.

NOTE: A Celebration Of ITC (DVD) cannot be ordered from Fanderson, but directly through Quoit Media.
